Hawks

The Hawks class is for our Year 3 and Year 4 children. They are taught by Mr Hall, ably supported by Mrs Wilson. 

The children are taught a two-year rolling programme of work in this class. Maths, Reading, Spelling and Writing are taught daily. Science, PE, Music and French are taught each week.  Computing, PSHE, DT and Art are also taught across each term. See Curriculum pages for further information on content of all subjects.

Autumn

Feeling Fit/ Ancient Egyptians

As scientists, the children learn about the skeleton, teeth and nutrition. They categorise animals and learn about food chains. In history, they learn about the Ancient Egyptians. 

The Stone Age to the Celts

As historians, the children will learn about this prehistoric Britain. As geographers, they learn about volcanoes and earthquakes. In science, they learn about rocks and later study electricity. 

Spring

Rivers and Mountains

As geographers, the children learn about the water cycle and the formation of rivers. They complete their learning with fieldwork in the local area, following the Avening stream from its source to the River Severn. As artists, they develop their colour-mixing skills. 

The Romans

As historians, the children learn about the Roman invasion of Britain. In art, they look at mosaics and the tessellating patterns of a more modern artist, Escher. As engineers, in DT, the Hawks look at levers and develop their wood-working skills. 

Summer

The Greeks

As historians, the children learn about one of the greatest human civilisations and its influence still today. 

As designers, they will work with textiles. 

Le Tour de France

As geographers, the children locate countries in Europe, then learn about a region in France. As artists, they develop their drawing skills, sketching a bike and developing their work into print.
